11 Beautiful Hill Stations In India

With scorching summers ready to give you tan lines, I think it’s time to rush off to a hill station to cool off. Now we all know the drill, we all love our Shimlas, and Mussoories, and Nainitals. But something that we don’t know is that there’s a whole wide array of other hill stations in the country which have been a well kept secret. They are lovely, they are gorgeous, and they are so much more than what you’d expect from a hill station. So let’s unfold!

1. Yercaud

Literally translating to ‘lake forest’ this place is totally a visual treat. Located at the Eastern Ghats (Tamil Nadu), it’s best discovered on foot.

2. Horsley Hills

Situated at the Chittoor district, it’s also known as ‘ Andhra Ooty’. You can also enjoy adventure sports other than trekking here, like zorbing and rappelling. Plus, Horsley Hills sounds kinda cool, doesn't it?

This is one place where you have lots to see and lots to do. It has Asia’s longest cable car, and also world’s highest man-made lake.

4. Mukteshwar


Deriving its name from a 350-year-old temple of Shiva, you can experience nature in its rawest form here. It’s the perfect spot for peace and quaint lovers.

5. Matheran

Just 90 km from Mumbai, this cute little place is the smallest hill station in India. But that doesn’t mean it’s low on charms. Also, it’s Asia’s only automobile free hill station. No noise, no pollution, and you get to go there in a toy train! Sweet!

6. Peermede

Situated in Idukki, Kerala, this place has amazing spice and herb plantation, including your fancy oregano. Of course there’s the picturesque pine forests and waterfalls which would totally enthrall you.

7. Lansdowne

 This one’s slowly gaining popularity among the young urban crowd, but it’s yet relatively unexplored. A photographer’s delight, even the way to reach Lansdowne is full of mind blowing sights.

Located in Himachal Pradesh, Kufri has lots to boast about- a wildlife zoo, which has rare antelopes, felines and birds; the Mahasu peak, and much more.

Literally meaning ‘three rivers’, Munnar has the most gorgeous tea gardens you’d ever see. It also has a recently opened tea museum. Now you don’t hear of that quite often.

At about 46 km from Shimla, Solan is for food lovers, as the place has quite a variety of cuisines to offer. Parks, monasteries, temples, forts, churches, it has it all. Also, its railway station is in fact one of the highest in the world.

This one is definitely for hiking lovers, located at 2,250 meters above sea level. It also has the world’s highest cricket ground.
